All Eyes on China: Report Says China Leading in GreenTech and Renewable Energy
The Climate Project , an international NGO seeking to advance climate solutions through business and government, will release new research this coming Friday in a report called China’s Green Revolution showing how, despite excuses made by president Bush for inaction, China is fast taking a lead role in development of renewable energy technologies and the “green collar” economy.
Among the key points in the report are finding that China will soon be the world leader in wind turbine manufacture and other green technologies, they are introducing fuel efficiency standards for cars which are 40 per cent higher than those in the U.S., and are a leading manufacturer of solar photo-voltaic technology with 820 megawatts of production as of the end of 2007, second only to Japan.
George Bush has used China as an excuse for his own lack of leadership in renewable energy and climate change. In doing so he has let America slip from its usual leadership role.
We have before us not only serious and difficult challenges, but also enormous opportunity.
